What is different about Posh's CENTURY Curriculum?
Over the past 16 years I have been a teacher, researcher and observer of young children. My biggest love is discovering what makes children tick. In my observations I discovered several things that make children tick, but the biggest discovery is that it is ever-changing and evolving with our environment, social norms, family structures, social expectations and resources. This means that a curriculum and teachers must never sit still for long. We must always ask the hard questions about what is working, what does research & observation teach us, how can we evolve to keep up with the minds of our youngest learners?
I developed the CENTURY Curriculum with these questions in mind. Over the years I listened & watched for the moments when children got excited, when they felt free to be themselves, and when they ran to mom or dad to show them something they did, created or discovered at school. Those were the "Aha!!" moments. I used those moments to create a curriculum that is relevant, interesting, exciting and allows room for children's interests, choices, autonomy and independence while creating an environment that teaches beyond kindergarten readiness.
CENTURY is focused on the 21st Century skills needed to be successful. We all want our children to be successful, but we must remember the foundation of skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, artistry, innovation, imagination, personal expression, research skills, teamwork, leadership, the scientific method, etc. begin in the early years. CENTURY encompasses 21st Century skills by providing choices, STEAM projects, relevant writing, process art, exploration, discovery, and more!
